En 1988, un dessinateur américain, auteur de bandes dessinées, inventa (ou seulement formula, consigna ?) une peur telle que l'anatidaéphobie : la crainte que, quelque part et d'une manière ou d'une autre, un canard vous observe.

L'idée est apparue dans la bande dessinée « The Far Side » ; le terme Anatidaephobia vient des mots grecs anatidae, « canard », et phobia, « peur ».
