# Les deux éléphants de Nicolas II, indien et africain, et leur mort

Nicolas II possédait deux éléphants : un d'Asie et un d'Afrique. L'empereur aimait s'occuper des animaux, baignait les éléphants et les nourrissait, et pouvait observer longuement les ébats des géants dans leur bassin.

L'éléphant d'Asie ne vécut guère, incapable de s'adapter au climat, tandis que l'éléphant d'Afrique vit la révolution et connut une fin tragique, abattu par des matelots. Pourtant, la bête aurait pu être confiée au zoo municipal.
