La tradition de la fin du Moyen Âge recommandait de ne pas porter de bagues par-dessus les gants ; on proposait à la place des gants spéciaux, perforés, à travers lesquels on apercevait les bijoux.

On trouve notamment de tels gants perforés sur les tableaux de Lucas Cranach l'Ancien.
