Prenant la parole au nom des peintres invités au congrès, Igor Grabar annonça que les artistes entendaient offrir au congrès un portrait de Staline. Boris Pasternak, membre du présidium, alors sur la scène, s'offrit à tenir le portrait du chef, qu'on venait d'apporter.
