Le 22 septembre 1819, le poète romantique anglais John Keats écrivait dans son journal : « À propos de plaisir, je viens d'écrire d'une main tandis que de l'autre je portais à ma bouche une nectarine, mon Dieu, quel délice ! Elle était tendre, charnue, juteuse, sa chair exquise fondait dans ma bouche comme une grosse fraise divine »
