# Putnam's cite « Pnine » de Nabokov en couverture pour profiter du succès de « Lolita

Le 18 août 1958, « Lolita » de Nabokov paraissait pour la première fois aux États-Unis et, pour la seconde fois, en anglais.

Sur la couverture du livre publié par New York: Putnam's figurait la mention « by the author of Pnin ». Quel est donc ce Pnin ?

Il s'agit d'un roman moins connu de Nabokov, paru un an plus tôt, sur un professeur de russe et de littérature qui tente de s'intégrer au milieu universitaire américain. En rappelant Timofeï Pnine, les éditeurs voulaient faire rejaillir le succès de « Lolita » sur une œuvre négligée du public. Autre question : comment diable a-t-on pu intituler un roman Pnin ?
