Evil is not the absence of good, but a force in its own right, full and substantial.

"Barbarism" by Michel Henry (1922-2002).

Henry is the greatest representative of French phenomenology, and sadly little known in present-day philosophical circles. Happily, however, he has very recently been reissued through the efforts of his friend, another genius, Jean-Luc Marion.
