It turns out that the rococo-style display cases for the royal jewels installed in the Galerie d'Apollon at the Louvre until 2019 were fitted with armoured glass, and that if the integrity of the outer casing was breached, their contents would automatically drop into a safe. The old secure cases were replaced with "modern" ones with ordinary glass, though at least they came from Cartier.

At the time the Louvre issued a press release stating that, in order to counter its elitist image, the museum would strive for "cultural democratisation", making its treasures more accessible through improved presentation, labelling and curation.

Cultural democratisation has succeeded! Bravo! The accessibility of the treasures is at its maximum.
