Union Veterans, Northerners, and Confederate Veterans, Southerners, at the Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg in 1913.

And yet, had the Battle of Gettysburg ended differently, we might today have had two distinct states: the Northern States and the Confederacy.

The Russian Empire, in the person of Alexander II, supported the Union and the lawful President Lincoln from the very outset.
