The blazar young art fair opened yesterday. By my impressions, it turns out a little different every year, and this year what struck me as new was the selection of galleries: some of the expected stands were missing from the pavilion, while others came as a surprise. The list of artists on show has also been thoroughly refreshed. There are many new young people, and I hear the organisers tried to avoid repeating artists already shown at Cosmoscow, though I do not yet know how far they succeeded. The average price tag, however, seems to have risen somewhat. For instance, I came across a work on paper by a quite little-known artist for 300 thousand, although there was also some interesting painting by promising authors at around 100 thousand, give or take. This is not your Dubinsky at 30 thousand, though I might as well recall the dollar at 80 kopecks too. It seems there is essentially nothing cheaper than 25-30 thousand. Many of my friends confessed that they had chosen nothing for their collections, but one couple said they were buying up everything in sight. On the whole, the feeling is that "a fair is a fair": plenty of everything, for different tastes, of varying quality and format, provided one has the interest and the desire to look.
