Unlike the start of Francis's pontificate in 2013, when the newly elected pope's first meeting with the cardinals was broadcast live, Leo XIV chose to hold his behind closed doors. The Vatican has published part of the Pope's address, in which, as a supplement to his papal programme, he explains one of the reasons why he chose the name Leo XIV:

"Mainly because Pope Leo XIII, in his historic encyclical Rerum Novarum, addressed the social question in the context of the first great industrial revolution; and today the Church is called to respond to another industrial revolution and to the developments of artificial intelligence, which pose new challenges for the defence of human dignity, justice and labour."

In short, as I [wrote,](https://theparnassian.com/poprobuem-predstavit-kakoi-simvolizm-mozhet-skryvatsia-za-imenem-novogo-papy-lva-xiv/?ref=theparnassian.com) there is no need to look for explanations beyond the pontificate of Leo XIII: the answer really was lying on the surface
