The Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve preserves the remnants of Moscow's oldest oak grove. The oaks of Kolomenskoye may remember the Russian sovereigns who lived and stayed here: Peter I, Alexis Mikhailovich, Michael Fyodorovich, Ivan the Terrible, Vasily III and Ivan III. The oldest oaks of the estate are fenced in with iron railings and kept under the special watch of the museum's staff. These trees are 400, 500 and even 600 years old. It is believed that among them there may be one a thousand years old. The trees are in bloom just now, their crowns only beginning to dress themselves in tiny leaves. What joy it is to see these ancient giants alive and well
