# Exhibition of the 13 group at the Museum of Russian Impressionism, graphic art and painting

The Museum of Russian Impressionism has a very good exhibition of the artists of the rather original and productive group "13", which existed in 1929-1931\. The core of the group was Vladimir Milashevsky, Daniil Daran and Nikolai Kuzmin, who worked at the newspaper Gudok and rethought the idea of the urban sketch. Among the members were Tatyana Mavrina, Roman Semashkevich, Boris Rybchenkov, Yury Yurkun, Olga Gildebrandt and Antonina Sofronova; there were originally 13 of them, and at its peak the group united more than 20 people.

The museum shows a great deal of graphic work, which was originally one of the group's chief interests. There is also a great deal of Impressionist painting, and beside the Russian artists hang works by their French colleagues, so the dialogue between them is a most entertaining one.

Many of the works have never been exhibited anywhere; indeed, many members of the group suffered the fate of going decades without exhibitions of their own.

For my part, I made many discoveries: I met favourite artists I already knew, and new ones whom I might never have learned of had I not come to this exhibition.
