In Moscow, the restoration of the Krupskaya monument on Sretensky Boulevard continues. Unveiled in 1976, the monument, the work of the husband-and-wife sculptors Ekaterina (Alekseyeva) and Alexander Belashov, was the first monument dedicated to an individual woman in Moscow.

The sculpture portrays Krupskaya as a young revolutionary. Yet the monument stands near the place where Krupskaya worked in her mature years: in the 1920s the People's Commissariat for Education, which she headed, was located here, and it was during her service there that Krupskaya accomplished the chief work of her life, the reform of public education, and laid the foundations of the Soviet educational system.
