MMOMA on Petrovka has opened an exhibition of the New York graffiti artist Hharif Guzman, bringing together his photographs, videos, graffiti, posters, signs, installations, paintings, boards and even such an art object as a shirt bearing a placard reading "this is my shirt". A very coherent and vivid project, about which I was asked, "but surely this is not in your style?" A man who realises himself so boldly in such different guises, and who introduces himself under the name Hakulla, simply cannot fail to be in my style. For me this discovery was the brightest event among the many new exhibitions of the week. As for Hharif himself, a tall, stylish, cheerful and good-natured fellow, surrounded by rappers, assorted bodyguards, models, young talents and serious gentlemen in classic suits, he embodies the quintessence of New York's irrepressible spirit, and is altogether a fine figure of a man.
