# Almost 150 protected areas in Moscow change status from OOPT to OOZT

At the end of last December, the Moscow government, by a decree of its own, converted the city's specially protected natural areas of regional significance (SPNAs) into specially protected green areas (SPGAs)

According to the document, almost 150 parks, nature reserves, natural monuments and other protected territories are to have their status changed.

The list includes large parks (Izmailovo, Sokolniki, Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo and so on), landscape reserves (among them the valleys of the rivers Gorodnya, Likhoborka, Ramenka and Skhodnya), the Vorobyovy Gory nature reserve, and numerous natural monuments (for example, the oaks and the Golosov Ravine in Kolomenskoye, and the Shchukino Peninsula).

On an SPGA the following are permitted: scientific research, educational, recreational and religious activity, as well as the planting of forest seedlings, the operation of water bodies and hydraulic structures, and the reconstruction and operation of communication lines, power transmission lines and underground pipelines.

The chief difference between the SPNA and SPGA regimes is that the SPNA regime does not allow plots of land within the boundaries of an SPNA to be granted into the ownership of citizens and legal entities. Nor may such plots be pledged as security or sublet.
