In the film "Moscow Does Not Believe in Tears", which begins in 1958, we meet the girls working at a factory. The heroine, Katerina Tikhomirova, who has come from the provinces, becomes not merely a fitter but a setter-operator. That, however, is another matter altogether: different circumstances, different conditions and, not least, quite different clothes.

Tikhomirova wears white ankle boots and little heeled shoes, while a girl who could have been her mother walked about at the same age in bast shoes. The distance from [this photograph](https://t.me/cucumberdeath/4639?ref=theparnassian.com) is 30 years, seemingly a single generation, yet in essence they are divided by the chasm of twentieth-century history, which is most apparent in comparisons of the material sort and in the example of economic and everyday realities.

Never forget the hardships your parents faced at your age, and which they had to overcome in order to provide you with something better in the future.
