In this modest house in Peredelkino, at 3 Serafimovich Street, Chukovsky lived from 1938 to 1969\. A few years after Chukovsky's death, in 1974, Lydia Korneyevna was expelled from the Writers' Union, and the Litfond decided to evict the family from the dacha. Legal wrangling dragged on for years, drawing in the Writers' Union, the Ministry of Culture of the RSFSR and the Litfond, and in 1982 the eviction of the Chukovskys was at last ordered. In 1989 the house would be restored to the status of a monument, and in 1994 a museum would officially open here, one that had in fact existed since the day of the writer's death
