Walt Disney in Paris on the Place de la Concorde in 1935 recalls the French origin of his surname, which was originally d'Isigny. The name derives from that of the town of Isigny in Normandy.

Walt Disney's ancestors were Norman French who emigrated to England, and then to North America.

In time the surname d'Isigny was transformed into the English form Disney, in which it became known in the United States and the world. Mindful of his origins, Disney always kept up his ties with France and sought inspiration in his ancestral homeland
