> Greet ye one another with an holy kiss. The salutation of me Paul with mine own hand.
> If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha.
> The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. My love be with you all in Christ Jesus.
> Amen.

A quotation from the First Epistle of the Apostle Paul to the Corinthians, given here as it appears in the first printed Moscow "Apostol" of 1564.

Reading the "Apostol", I noticed an unusual phrase, "maran afa". It occurs in the Apostle Paul only once, and is rendered as "Come, our Lord!" or "The Lord is coming". According to one theory, it may have been a common greeting among the early Christians.

In the passage quoted, "maran afa" is translated in different ways, depending on whether it belongs to the preceding sentence. If it does, "anathema maran-afa" is rendered as "Let him be excommunicated until the coming of the Lord"; if "maran afa" stands at the beginning of the next sentence, the line reads: "If anyone does not love the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be excommunicated. The Lord will come."
