The typical club of the era of the developed welfare state, that is, the USSR, was a sociocultural Wi-Fi that connected people without a password or restrictions. Such a club was not merely a place of leisure but the centre of life for a settlement or district: concerts, lectures, films, meetings, weddings, all took place there. Culture was open to everyone: workers, students and pensioners could come free of charge or for a token fee. The clubs ran circles, from dramatic societies to radio engineering, and people really did learn new things and discover their talents.

As they say, we draw our own conclusions
