# Tsikoriy Contemporary Art Centre opens in Zheleznogorsk, Kursk Region

Meanwhile, in Zheleznogorsk, a town of a hundred thousand in the Kursk region, the Tsikoriy (“Chicory”) Centre for Contemporary Art has opened. The governor himself came to the opening, no less. The centre was launched with the support of Garage. The atmosphere at the opening was very warm and inspiring: senior officials spoke of the key role played by the initiative of Zheleznogorsk's young people and stressed that Russia will develop through its regions. It sounds handsome, and the local lads told of the two biennales they have already managed to hold, of the residency and of their ties with artists across the country. It is always a joy when new cultural centres appear, open to everyone. And, to be honest, I am not sure I would even have learned of the existence of such a town, still less visited it, had it not been for Tsikoriy. So now, should you be passing, do not drive by.
