The fate of many of Notre-Dame's treasures remains unknown.

**A piece of the Holy Cross and the holy nails**

A fragment of the Cross on which Jesus was crucified, and one of the nails from the Crucifixion.

**A painting of Thomas Aquinas**

A canvas of the seventeenth century, depicting Saint Thomas and people drinking from the fountain of wisdom, had been kept in the cathedral since 1974.

**Sculpture of Saint-Denis**

The statue of the preacher and patron saint of Paris was made in the eighteenth century by the sculptor Nicolas Coustou.

**Madonna and Child**

A sculpture of the Virgin Mary with Jesus, fourteenth century.

**The bells**

Notre-Dame has ten bells in all. The oldest, of the fifteenth century, weighs 13 tonnes and is called Emmanuel.

**The west and south rose windows**

The first rose window of Notre-Dame, the western one, was installed in 1225\. The southern window is larger and was installed five years later. During the fire it was reported that one of the roses had collapsed, but as things stand there is still hope that all three windows have survived.
