Not long ago, the Bakhrushin Museum held a preview of the Centre for Theatre History, part of the museum and theatre quarter. This large-scale and in many respects unique project has long been discussed with interest in the museum community. The other day TASS published a substantial, programmatic [interview](https://tass.ru/interviews/24399327?ref=theparnassian.com) with Kristina Trubinova, Director General of the Bakhrushin Theatre Museum, touching on work on the quarter, support for culture and the regional agenda. I invite you to acquaint yourselves with the main points.

**On the museum quarter:**

📌 More than 50 professionals are at work on the high-tech Bakhrushinsky museum and theatre quarter on the grounds of the Bakhrushin family's historic estate: artists, architects, academic curators, and specialists in sound, lighting and multimedia.

📌 The aim is a profound cultural rethinking of the site. The historic estate is being turned into a multifunctional museum and theatre cluster.

📌 In the museum's 130-year history, this is the first undertaking of such scale.

**On work in the regions:**

📌 Full-fledged museum spaces are being created at theatres in the regions. In 2024 the first museums under the programme were opened, in Kursk and Dagestan; this year, in Kineshma and Yaroslavl. By the end of the current year, openings are planned in Sukhum, Donetsk and Samara.

**On patronage:**

📌 The Bakhrushin family initiated large-scale cultural projects and built social and cultural infrastructure at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries: they built churches, hospitals, almshouses, theatres and people's houses, the forerunners of Soviet houses of culture. Thanks to the Bakhrushins, Moscow gained more than 100 major buildings.

📌 When funding the construction of hospitals, the Bakhrushins, besides the money allocated for building, placed an equal sum in a designated account, the interest from which went towards the institution's upkeep thereafter.

📌 Today the tradition of patronage may be continued by the development of endowment funds. In Russia they began to appear in earnest around 2017.

**On international cooperation:**

📌 Over the past three years the Bakhrushin Museum has carried out some 30 international exhibition projects, in Vienna, Luxembourg, Paris, Sofia and Brussels. Belarus and Kazakhstan remain close partners. Cooperation in the Asian direction is developing actively.
