The image alludes to the enigmatic drawing "The Ancient of Days", completed by the artist and poet William Blake only a couple of days before his death, which shows God imprisoned within the sun at the moment of the creation of the universe, amid total nothingness.

The inscription above the entrance, "And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times", is a quotation from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah, which in full, in the Synodal translation, runs as follows:

"And there shall be safe times for thee, an abundance of salvation, of wisdom and of knowledge; the fear of the Lord shall be thy treasure."
