Today, at 25/9 Tverskaya Street in Moscow, the Museum-Apartment of the People's Artist of the USSR Maya Mikhailovna Plisetskaya opened its doors. The apartment in which Plisetskaya lived was donated to the Bakhrushin Theatre Museum by the ballerina's widower, the composer Rodion Shchedrin. Together with a multitude of memorial objects, the museum received Plisetskaya's archive and her wardrobe, including stage costumes, some 10,000 items in all. Among the most valuable works of art in the display are a Chagall lithograph with a dedicatory inscription and works by Fernand Léger, Anatoly Zverev, Artur Fonvizin and Vladimir Shakhmeister. All the exhibits have been incorporated into a specially created joint fund of Maya Plisetskaya and Rodion Shchedrin. Among those present at the opening were the Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova and the artistic director of the Mariinsky Theatre Valery Gergiev, a close friend of the family of Plisetskaya and Shchedrin.
