Happy Palm Sunday!

The faithful break off branches of olive trees and palms to cast beneath the feet of Christ as he enters Jerusalem.

This fresco belongs to the most famous series of works by Giotto di Bondone and is part of the 900-metre painted decoration of the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua, 1304 - 1306\. The frescoes were painted in great haste, in a church that had only just been built, yet they span the whole life of Christ and are executed in three tiers from the floor to the very vault.

The decoration of the Scrovegni Chapel is one of the greatest masterpieces of Western art and became the standard for the monumental painting of the Renaissance. By a happy coincidence, over 700 years the frescoes have remained untouched and have escaped alterations and renovations.
