# The decision to dissolve the Russian Oscar Committee must be taken by the cinematic community

The decision to dissolve the Russian Oscar Committee must be taken by the cinematic community. This opinion was [expressed](https://tass.ru/kultura/23318069?ref=theparnassian.com) to TASS by Mikhail Shvydkoy, the Russian President's Special Representative for International Cultural Cooperation.

"This is a question that the filmmakers themselves must decide," he said, stressing that if filmmakers consider that their relations with the Oscar Committee have run their course, then "we shall agree with the opinion of our great creators."

The Russian Oscar Committee used to nominate domestic films for the American film award in the category "Best Foreign Language Film". In 2022, a statement appeared on the website of the National Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of the Russian Federation announcing that the presidium of the Russian Film Academy had decided to decline to nominate a Russian film for an "Oscar". In 2023 the committee suspended its work
