Early this morning came the sad news: in her 81st year there passed away a remarkable person, a living legend of the Russian museum world, an outstanding, cultured, devoted and tirelessly active champion of Russian culture, Natalya Nikolayevna Gramolina, who had worked at the Polenovo estate museum since 1970 and for 21 years served as director of the Vasily Polenov State Memorial Historical, Artistic and Natural Museum-Reserve. Only a few weeks ago Natalya Nikolayevna received the Order of Honour. For many years Gramolina herself, her working life and her museum work were a model of devotion to a beloved cause and of service to culture, and her contribution to preserving the legacy of Vasily Polenov, the Polenov places and the Polenov landscape is simply beyond price, both in the field of legislation and legal instruments and in the real world. I love Natalya Nikolayevna, and I convey words of grief and sympathy to her family and friends: the death of this extraordinary woman is a great loss for Russia and for Russian culture.
