A year has passed since the devastating fire at the Cathedral of St Theodosius of Chernigov in Cleveland, built in 1912 on the initiative of the Society of St Nicholas.

The fire at the end of last May inflicted colossal damage on the cathedral: the flames destroyed the roof and damaged the walls, and the central dome had to be dismantled to avoid total collapse. Fortunately, however, most of the frescoes and icons survived.

The initial damage estimate of $1 million proved far too optimistic, and the figure now stands at $10 million. The fundraising for the cathedral's restoration continues, and restoration work is under way.
