\. "A Little History of the World" by Ernst Gombrich. For people of any age who would like to take in the whole course of world history at a glance, and definitely better than modern textbooks. *Alpina Non-Fiction Publishers*

\. You may not know the name of Herwarth Walden, and all the greater will be the impression made by a first acquaintance with this curator and visionary of the early twentieth century, built on documentary evidence and with an almost detective-story opening. *Garage.txt Publishers*

\. "A Short History of the New in Russian Discourse on Art" will be relevant for those who would, after all, like to make sense of the talk about contemporary art in the intervals between the sparkling wine at private views. *Garage.txt Publishers*

\. The book by the film scholar Naum Kleiman brings together the thoughts of our outstanding contemporary on Pushkin and Eisenstein. *Garage.txt Publishers*

\. Mikhail Maizuls's large and handsome volume "The Imaginary Enemy. Infidels in Medieval Iconography" deals with a very narrow subject, but if you actually read it, it will entitle you to lay claim to an almost all-embracing understanding of a whole stratum of medieval culture. *Alpina Non-Fiction Publishers*

\. I have already quoted the collection of 100 art manifestos by art figures of the previous century. An excellent book for opening out a weighty fan of unfamiliar names and a whole universe of unexpected views on art. *Alpina Non-Fiction Publishers*

\. Nadezhda Plungyan's ambitious "The Birth of the Soviet Woman" is devoted to studying the transformation of the types of the "new woman" created in the whirlpool of the 1920s and 1930s. *Garage.txt Publishers*

\. Alexei Konakov's "A History of the Incredible in the Late USSR" tells of the phenomenon of interest in the Abominable Snowman, extraterrestrials, magicians and other "strange" things: why was the Soviet citizen so interested in the supernatural, how did this coexist with materialist doctrines, and what is the genesis of these views? *Garage.txt Publishers*
