It follows that on 10 January 2023, with the death of Constantine II of Greece, Europe lost its last\* Orthodox monarch. Constantine II reigned from 1964 to 1973, died in his 83rd year, and will be buried in Athens

\*Constantine was the last of Europe's reigning Orthodox monarchs. Simeon II, who ruled Bulgaria in 1943-1946, is still alive and is in effect the last living Orthodox monarch, unless monarchy should suddenly be revived in one of the Orthodox countries of Europe
