Towards the close of the day, in the manner of a "farewell tour", I looked in on the opening of the Rosizo exhibition "Trin-trava" at the Turgenev-Botkin mansion in Petroverigsky Lane. There are some interesting interpretations of the Russian style, but on the whole it was the building itself that held my attention, having been restored only very recently and, if I understood correctly, for a time under the wing of Medinsky. Inside, the manor house looks first-rate: the wooden staircase creaks with historical propriety, the brass espagnolette bolts on the window frames conform to the nineteenth-century norm, and the upper floor, as befits Russian merchant palaces of those years, is a little chilly. Otherwise it is an effective combination of late Moscow Empire style and contemporary artists with a leaning towards the folk idiom. Setting the exhibits aside, to which, in a drunken absent-mindedness after the birthday celebrations of the "Dostoevsky" bookshop, I could not give particular attention, what impressed was precisely the mood of the enchanted guests: that dreary hopelessness of the realisation that the next encounter with art and museums will come who knows when 💔
