Why vareniki, syrniki and blini are a [symbol of the Moon](https://theparnassian.com/maslenitsa-sviazana-s-kultom-mertvykh-i-kultom-predkov-vprochem-kak-pochti-vse-vostochnoslavianskie-prazdniki/?ref=theparnassian.com) is described at length in, for example, this interesting article, available on [Academia](https://www.academia.edu/10929353/%D0%9C%D0%B0%D1%81%D0%BB%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%B8%D1%86%D0%B0%5F%D0%BF%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%B7%D0%B4%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%BA%5F%D0%B2%D1%81%D1%82%D1%80%D0%B5%D1%87%D0%B8%5F%D0%BF%D0%BE%D0%BB%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%BB%D1%83%D0%BD%D0%B8%D1%8F?ref=theparnassian.com). As for the claim that blini are a solar symbol, it too turns up very often in the literature, and has its champions and its opponents. The one thing that would be strange is to quarrel with the importance of the heavenly bodies in mythological systems and folklore.
