On the resignation of the rector of MGIMO I made the following observation: in the 46 years from 1944 to 1990 the institute changed 14 heads, and not one of them held the post to the last day of his life, all continued working after retirement, the longest term as rector being the 11 years of service of Nikolai Ivanovich Lebedev, from 1974 to 1985\. Whereas from 1992 to 2020 (28 years) MGIMO was headed by one man, Anatoly Vasilyevich Torkunov.
