The first obstetric mannequin was designed by Angélique Du Coudray, celebrated for her book on the fundamentals of midwifery and her vast experience of training young midwives. Under the influence of Du Coudray and her petition, the decision to deny women professional training in obstetrics was reversed. After this success, Du Coudray's fame and authority grew so great that Louis XV sent her to teach women throughout France: she trained more than 4,000 people, and her pupils in turn trained some 6,000 more.
