**It is laughable to speak of literature now, because it is not the time of literature at all: visual practices have won a total victory and have entirely crushed the printed word. The word has been stripped of its former myth, and the influence of the visual will grow through visual practice.**

Vladimir Sorokin in an interview in 1998.

> I keep an eye on the younger generation in general, it is very interesting. It is laughable to speak of literature now, because it is not the time of literature at all: visual practices have won a total victory and have entirely crushed the printed word. The word has been stripped of its former myth, and the influence of the visual will grow through visual practice. So what interests me now is not the literature of the young, which simply does not exist, but what is happening to the word in general, how it mutates under the influence of visual practices and how it changes. … For the moment I do not want to return to the literary process in its pure form. I think I shall return to it later, but now it is interesting to penetrate another genre, where the "living nerve" is at present, I feel it very well, it is interesting to work there.
