# Oh, My God!

The closing shots of «Planet of the Apes», filmed with a model of the ruined Statue of Liberty, were a director's decision not foreseen by the original screenplay, which envisaged a somewhat different answer to the «question» posed in the opening scene: not so much where we are, as when this is happening.

True, in the source of the story the heroes do return to Earth, where apes likewise hold sway. But the looping of time and space does read better this way.

The final shot, which has since become iconic, was filmed on a beach in California.
