One must never begin with the bad, so let us note at once that the small details cannot fail to impress. Considered and exact, they create not merely a setting but at times a true picture of the age: what of the clockwork toy in the shape of a walking bird, sent from the East? Bone caskets, baskets for firewood and even a wooden bath lined with linen recreate the spirit of the epoch admirably. A part is played, too, by the siege machinery, which you could hardly see so minutely rendered anywhere but in the game “Cossacks” or in the open-air war museum at the French [Château de Castelnaud](https://theparnassian.com/pomnite-trebushet/?ref=theparnassian.com).
