We recently discussed the installation of [new vents](https://theparnassian.com/skandal-gde-ne-zhdali/?ref=theparnassian.com) in the floors of Versailles for the ventilation system, which can be viewed in different ways, both from the standpoint of improved comfort and a favourable microclimate, and from conservative considerations of the immutability of the palace's appearance. Well, the question of visitors' convenience is relevant not only to Versailles and not only in our own day. Note the balustrade with velvet armrests in front of the paintings in the nineteenth-century Louvre, captured in the canvases of Giuseppe Castiglione. It is a fairly simple and elegant device: first, it separates the painting from the general space of the gallery, and second, it creates a comfortable means of studying the picture at length and at close range. Of course, such supports for visitors in the immediate vicinity of the paintings have their advantages and drawbacks, but it would be interesting to see them in modern museums. I say nothing of the numerous sofas and canapés that have simply vanished from the spaces of the large, much-visited museums to make way for ever greater streams of tourists hurrying from room to room
