Slightly off topic, but today I came across gold earrings of 1870 with fish in aquariums, and it reminded me of the Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2017 ready-to-wear collection. That collection, too, had fishy motifs, as well as some very striking lobster earrings, which I saw yesterday on my friend Eva. Similar lobster jewellery was made by Elsa Schiaparelli in the 1930s. It was, broadly speaking, part of her collaboration with Salvador Dalí, whose most conspicuous product is the famous white dress with the lobster. Most interesting of all, Schiaparelli's lobster brooches can be found on eBay for roughly $600-700, while the Dolce & Gabbana Lobster Earrings cost $716 in the sales at Moda Operandi. Naturally, everything has long since sold out, but perhaps one might still turn them up in the D&G hangar at TsUM. In any case, the marine and piscine theme has a long history in the jeweller's art, and I do not mean necklaces of seashells, but fine work in Scythian gold, for example.
