In the background, Frederick, Duke of York, has gone down as well, having tripped over a stone inscribed "darling from Windsor". Georg's depiction contains several curious details, the enormous backside aside: on his right foot, for instance, one can spot a strange piece of footwear, a gouty sandal. The detail plainly mocks the Regent's poor state of health, which does not stop him from whoring. The Regent says that one must stop going to Hertford and start going to Richmond. Hertford is the estate of the prince's long-standing mistress, and this is an unmistakable hint at a wish to exchange her for another. In Lady Hertford's hand is a bundle of birch rods, evidently personifying her power over her lover.
