In Rus', blasphemers were burnt locked inside a wooden log cabin. In the Law Code (Sobornoye Ulozheniye) of 1649, burning for blasphemy was set down in the following form:

“Should any man of another faith, of whatever creed, or even a Russian, utter blasphemy against the Lord God and our Saviour Jesus Christ, or against His Most Pure Mother, our Lady the Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary, or against the honourable cross, or against His Holy saints, let this be investigated by every manner of inquiry, most rigorously. And should it be established beyond doubt, having convicted that blasphemer, let him be executed: burnt.”
