In my view, the trouble with events of this kind, where people try to stand up to commercial giants backed by the authorities at every turn, lies not even in the futility of such undertakings in our country, but in the fact that the camp of defenders of the righteous cause is infiltrated by half-blessed and incoherent characters who spoil the picture with their misplaced initiative and illiterate argumentation. Today, after the empty and cunning performance of the developers, there came a vivid, thorough, well-substantiated and lucid statement from the lawyer **Dmitry Charakhchyan,** whichclarified and outlined precisely why the development project must be reconsidered, on which points, and to what exactly the public should pay attention. After Charakhchyan there speaks an architect, who spreads herself over the ruin with tales of ancient history, the link of the ages, some Japan, the smell of kalach loaves, the magic of the centuries and guests from Asia who might gaze upon these beauties, so that by the middle of the second defender of Ivanovskaya Gorka's speech the effect of the first speech's concreteness has been wiped away. Why do you barge into public discussion if, beyond lyricism, you have nothing concrete to offer? The matter is serious: we are speaking of an aggressive intrusion into a historic territory, of the concealment of fundamental details of the construction: the declared dimensions of the building that is to appear are half of those actually planned. The authorities are wholly on the developer's side. Some kind of jelly banks are promised, with which old Moscow has already been drowned in rivers of milk. Everyone understands, meanwhile, that we shall sigh and disperse, everything they wanted will be demolished to hell, in the spaces declared public they will open a couple of bars and restaurants, lay new paving and fashionable little fences around, and then they will demolish and disfigure the next little district.
