# The Daily Mail Runs a Long Piece on the Habsburg Jaw

The [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-7739531/amp/Centuries-inbreeding-European-royals-caused-deformity-known-Habsburg-jaw.html?%5F%5Ftwitter%5Fimpression=true&ref=theparnassian.com) has published a long article on the [Habsburg jaw](https://theparnassian.com/esli-rebenok-dzhona-snou-i-deineris-targarien-sochetaetsia-brakom-s-ditem-dzheime-i-sersei-lannisterov-u-nikh-roditsia-karl-ii-gabsburg/?ref=theparnassian.com). Scientists maintain that the dynasty owes its hereditary facial deformity to two centuries of inbreeding among Europe's royal families. The text has outraged our old friend [Eduard Habsburg](https://theparnassian.com/menia-chasto-sprashivaiut-kakovo-eto-byt-naslednikom-velikoi-dinastii/?ref=theparnassian.com), one of the present-day representatives of the family. He cites a version more palatable to the great house: that prognathism came to the Habsburgs from one of their foremothers of the fifteenth century, Cymburgis of Masovia, daughter of the Duke of Masovia and Archduchess of Austria, who was the grandmother of Maximilian I. One wonders whether the current head of the house, Karl von Habsburg-Lothringen, grandson of Charles I, the last Emperor of Austria, will speak up, and whether the holy war in defence of close-kin intercourse among aristocrats will go on.
