On 5 May, as in 2024, Easter fell in 1850, 1861, 1907, 1918, 1929, 2002 and 2013\. The next time Easter will be celebrated on 5 May is in 2097.

The latest Orthodox Easter will be celebrated in 2078, on 8 May. The previous time such a date occurred was in 1983.

The earliest Orthodox Easter falls on 4 April; this happened in 1847, 1858, 1915 and 2010.

Easter falls on the first Sunday after the spring full moon, no earlier than the day of the spring equinox. The main difference in how Orthodox Christians and Catholics determine the date of Easter is that the Catholic Church reckons Easter from the day of the spring equinox according to the Gregorian calendar, while the Orthodox Church reckons it according to the Julian one; moreover, the calendar full moon in the Orthodox Church occurs several days later than the astronomical one. Hence Orthodox Christians celebrate Easter on one of the Sundays between 4 April and 8 May by the Gregorian calendar.

Catholic and Orthodox Easter fall on the same day in roughly a third of cases. We shall celebrate Easter on the same day in 2025, and then in 2028, 2031, 2034, 2037, 2038, 2041, 2045 and 2048.
