Eeckhout's “Musical Party” under flies, the blistered “David and Abigail” of van Diepenbeeck, a hole in Bialynitsky-Birulya's canvas and other sad facts about the collection of the Moscow sanatorium Uzkoye, in the Bitsa Forest, are described in a caustic [article](https://www.kp.ru/daily/28309/4450767/?fbclid=IwAR0VZm6hVQyaYyF26NmKMfhpyU2MxHFMBD%5FfeODSVAAEvfhD3WWWmIcZhP0&ref=theparnassian.com) in Komsomolskaya Pravda, which for some reason concentrates on the origins of the employees of the cultural directorate rather than on the status of the manor house, recognised as a federal monument, and the rare objects inside it, from furniture of Karelian birch to paintings from the Potsdam collection and the collection of Academician Morozov. Uzkoye is one of the few places in the capital open to visitors, albeit for a fee, where one can quite literally touch works of art of this calibre. There is nothing good in touching museum exhibits, of course, but until the estate is turned into a museum, it is hard to speak of a museum attitude. The matter comes down to questions of ownership: the sanatorium belongs to the Russian Academy of Sciences, but I think a way can and must be found to turn a leaking, lopsided shack into a full-fledged museum.
