The youngest daughter of the artist Zinaida Serebriakova, Ekaterina (1913-2014), [speaks](https://youtu.be/pSgiO5g3EVY?ref=theparnassian.com) of her childhood, her mother, her family, the flight from Bolshevik Russia, and how she too became an artist and resolved to devote her life to her mother. It is curious that Ekaterina Borisovna recalls the years when things in Europe were frightening too, and people wished to escape to America.

Ekaterina Serebriakova lived to the age of a hundred and one, most of it in France, where she worked, guarded the family legacy, died and was laid to rest. For many years she headed the Zinaida Serebriakova Foundation.

\- Do you consider yourself Russian or French?
\- Neither one nor the other, simply a human being. One must be a human being, mustn't one?
