I am often asked about the origins of art in the earliest epochs of humanity, but this is not quite my field, despite several articles on the subject and a few interesting thoughts. Our Academy of Sciences has a team that deals with the questions of ancient pictorial practices with great competence and depth: the Centre for Palaeoart of the Institute of Archaeology, headed by the wonderfully lofty and level-headed Elena Levanova. I strongly advise you to watch a short [programme](https://youtu.be/jQChEPniRb4?ref=theparnassian.com) with her participation and to listen to an accessible and fascinating account of palaeoart from one of the leading scholars in this field of research in our country
