A memorial plaque on house No. 72, Chkalov Street, in the city of Rybinsk commemorates the sons of Khaim Shmuilovich Shenker, a clerk at the Rybinsk office of the Volga River Steamship Company, Joseph and Nicholas, who emigrated with their family to the USA in 1893, when they were 15 and 12 years old. At first the Schencks sold newspapers and worked in a pharmacy, then owned an amusement park and a chain of cinemas. In the 1920s the younger brother headed the Metro Goldwyn Mayer corporation, while the elder headed the 20th Century Fox corporation and became one of the founders of the American Film Academy
